CONTEXT
- Broadcasting and film regulations have traditionally been stringent. There is growing recognition of the need to modernize these frameworks to keep pace with the digital era. However, if the trend of strong regulatory oversight were to continue, the newly proposed draft laws on Over-The-Top (OTT) services and film regulation would have severely impacted our streaming service client and the broader industry.
EXECUTION
- Vero Advocacy assessed risks and implications of the draft OTT and film laws and crafted advocacy strategies to influence and prevent insensible clauses. We helped the client connect and engage with key policymakers, regulators, and law drafters, communicating the likely adverse effects of the laws and suggesting lighter-touch regulatory approaches.
RESULTS
- Law drafters and key broadcasting board members aligned with a light-touch regulatory approach for the fast-evolving streaming industry. The film agency ultimately scrapped the problematic draft film law and introduced a more liberal version—widely regarded as one of the most forward-looking and business-friendly in the region.
